Leaf pellet mill
If you are looking for a machine to transform waste materials—such as fallen leaves, dried foliage, garden waste, and orchard leaves—into pellets that are easy to store and transport, we recommend the RICHI leaf pellet mill.
As a high-efficiency biomass processing unit, it utilizes advanced high-temperature extrusion technology to convert loose leaves into 2–12mm pellets suitable for use as fuel or organic fertilizer. Below, we provide a detailed overview of this leaf pellet production machine that turns waste into a valuable resource.

What is a leaf pellet mill?
In the past, discarded leaves were simply burned or used directly as supplementary fuel. However, due to their high moisture content, bulkiness, and impurity levels, they were unsuitable for direct commercial sale. Many biomass businesses now opt for leaf pellet mills—highly automated machines that use ring dies and rollers to compress leaves into uniform pellets. These pellets offer excellent combustion properties and minimal environmental impact.
As a professional manufacturer of biomass equipment, we provide comprehensive pelletizing solutions that integrate cleaning, crushing, pelletizing, drying, cooling, and packaging—all tailored to your specific production requirements.

Diverse application scenarios
The leaf pellet mill can also be used to process various agricultural and forestry wastes—such as wood chips, sawdust, hay, straw, sugarcane bagasse, and peanut shells…We offer raw material analysis to provide accurate data for production planning.

Adjustable pellet size
To meet diverse customer needs, this machine can produce leaf pellets ranging from 2mm to 12mm in size without requiring equipment replacement. Its modular design allows operators to quickly swap out the ring die, enabling the production of pellets in various sizes.

Production at all scales
Leaf pellet processing machines are available in various models, with production capacities ranging from 0.3 to 5 tons per hour. Of course, these are baseline figures; for higher capacities—such as 10 or 20 tons per hour—we can provide customized solutions.

Fabrication sur mesure
Before the equipment enters formal production, we conduct a comprehensive assessment of the client’s raw materials, production capacity, budget, available space, product requirements, and electrical infrastructure. Following confirmation with the client, we provide the production line flowchart, foundation pit layout, and equipment quotation—all free of charge.

Technical Structure of the Leaf Pellet Mill
Why can leaf pellet mills be sold to more than 140 countries and receive widespread praise? This is due to their scientific structure and durable materials. After repeated design and refinement, this equipment has passed international quality tests such as CE and ISO. It requires less frequent maintenance and is suitable for continuous production.

Alimentateur anti-arche
Feeding is the first step in the leaf pelletizing process, and ensuring that raw materials enter the machine smoothly is crucial. We have installed an anti-bridging feeder to prevent material clumping, thereby ensuring smooth pelletization and avoiding material waste.

Ring die and press rollers
To further reduce operating costs for customers, the pellet mill’s wear parts—specifically the ring die and press rollers—are made entirely of alloy steel. With proper maintenance and operation, they support 600 to 1,000 hours of production.

Transmission par engrenage
High-precision aerospace-grade gear grinding technology. Compared with belt drives, efficiency can be increased by 15%. Moreover, the transmission is smooth, with low noise, making it suitable for continuous production.

Adjustable cutter
The leaf pellet machine’s cutter can control pellet length by adjusting the distance between the cutter and the ring die. To withstand the material’s impact, the cutter is also made of cemented carbide, giving it a lifespan 3-8 times longer than that of ordinary carbon steel.

Serpentine spring coupling
This component is mounted on both the motor and the reducer shafts. It improves transmission efficiency to the granulation chamber while simultaneously reducing vibration and compensating for misalignment between the two shafts.

Dispositifs de protection de la sécurité
In the event of a main motor overload, the safety pin on the equipment will protect critical components. The safety pin will automatically break, deactivating the limit switch to automatically cut off power and reduce the frequency of failures.

How to make leaf pellets?
Producing high-quality leaf pellets is not just about using a single leaf pellet mill; it’s the result of multiple processes operating in coordination. When designing a production line, it is necessary to ensure that the connection between the preceding and following processes is reasonable. This is key to guaranteeing successful pelleting.
The process flow of a standard leaf pellt production line:
01
This step involves using a cleaning machine to remove any stones, dust, or other impurities that may be present in the leaves, ensuring the smooth progress of subsequent granulation.
02
Practice has shown that processing raw materials into uniform powder increases particle yield by 15-15%. We offer specialized leaf shredders that can shred leaves into 3-5mm powder in a short time.
03
Ensuring the material is dry before pelleting is equally important. Otherwise, pelleting can easily result in slippage. A commonly used drying equipment in biomass projects is the rotary drum dryer, whose rotation speed can be adjusted according to the material’s moisture content.
04
This is the most crucial step in the entire production line. The feeder forces the leaves into the leaf pellet mill. Here, the temperature reaches 90-110 degrees Celsius, continuously softening the lignin in the leaves and creating a natural binding agent. Finally, as the material exits the die, a cutter quickly cuts it into uniform pellets.
05
To extend the shelf life of the pellets, freshly made pellets need to be cooled in a cooling machine. It only takes 6-15 minutes to lower the hot pellets (80-95 degrees Celsius) to room temperature, preventing mold and moisture buildup.
06
To ensure the quality of the leaf pellets, many projects install screening systems before the packaging machine. This filters out powder from the pellets and allows for secondary granulation, reducing losses.
07
This is the final step in the entire process. We offer both automatic and manual packing options. The final requirement depends on the customer’s production volume and forecast.

Questions fréquemment posées
Voici quelques questions fréquemment posées. Vous pouvez également nous contacter à tout moment pour obtenir des réponses.
My raw material contains fresh leaves. Can I granulate it directly?
We do not recommend doing this. Fresh leaves can contain 45-70% moisture, which can cause machine blockage during pelleting. Furthermore, excessive moisture can make it difficult to unmold. Therefore, to ensure production efficiency, we generally recommend that you sun-dry the fresh leaves or use professional equipment to dry them before pelleting.
What Is the Leaf Pellet Making Machine Price?
The price of a leaf pellet mill generally ranges from $10,000 to $100,000. The specific price depends on the customer’s production volume, raw materials, equipment configuration, and process flow. The more complex the project, the higher the price will be.
Is there a promising future in using leaves to make biomass pellets?
Yes. Currently, global demand for environmentally friendly energy continues to rise. With limited supplies of traditional raw materials like wood chips and sawdust, some companies are starting to look for alternatives such as leaves, straw, branches, and peanut shells. A significant advantage of leaf pelleting is its wide availability; it’s practically ubiquitous. This ensures relatively low raw material procurement costs.
However, for commercial pelleting, a stable raw material collection and processing system is essential, forming the foundation for continuous pelleting production.
It’s important to note that pure leaf pellets have a low calorific value. Therefore, in real-world projects, many pellet mills combine them with sawdust, straw, and other raw materials to improve combustion efficiency. A single leaf pellet machine Canada processes leaves mixed with 15-40% branches and sawdust into pellets, which are then sold to surrounding industrial boilers, with a payback period of approximately 5-6 months.
