Vertical Biomass Pellet Machine

Introduction to Vertical Biomass Pellet Machines
Entering the biomass pelleting industry isn’t complicated, but achieving stable profitability is not easy. The key lies in choosing the right equipment from the very first step. This new vertical biomass pellet machine is simple to operate and highly automated, effectively reducing production difficulty and helping biomass producers quickly get started.
Furthermore, the equipment’s capacity ranges from 1 ton to 10 tons per hour. It’s suitable for both on-the-job pellet production and large-scale commercial production. Through vertical feeding, it compresses various biomass raw materials into compact pellets that can be used for industrial combustion and animal bedding.
Besides finding good equipment, choosing a reliable and experienced supplier is also crucial. RICHI Machinery has provided customized pelleting solutions to over 2,000 customers worldwide for 30 years. Extensive experience allows for easy handling of various biomass pellet problems. Therefore, you are welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you with a one-stop service and lifetime technical support.
How do vertical biomass pellet machines process different raw materials?
Vertical ring die pellet mills, due to their unique vertical structure design, have virtually no restrictions on the processing of most biomass raw materials. They excel particularly at processing sawdust, wood chips, rice husks, wheat straw, corn stalks, peanut shells, sunflower seed shells, bamboo powder, palm fiber, and other agricultural and forestry wastes. These are high-fiber, highly variable, and lightweight materials that often daunt ordinary pellet mills. With a vertical pellet mill, only simple pretreatment and process adjustments are needed to produce high-density combustion pellets and animal bedding. No additional equipment investment is required.
Wood raw materials
These materials naturally contain high levels of lignin. Under pressure and friction at 80-120 degrees Celsius, they soften naturally and acquire binding properties. This makes the pellets more stable. Typically, the pellet density can reach 1.1–1.3 g/cm³, making them not only heat-resistant but also resistant to breakage during long-distance transportation and storage.

agricultural straw
Long fiber length and loose structure are common characteristics of this type of raw material. When processing straw-like raw materials, we usually recommend increasing the ring die compression ratio (approximately 1:6–1:8). A higher compression ratio means greater compressive force on the material. This helps to strengthen the internal binding force of the pellets, thereby producing compact and dense pellets.

Shells and hard materials
Hard biomass raw materials have a low lignin content but contain a large amount of minerals such as silica. Therefore, processing them into pellets requires not only a suitable compression ratio. But more importantly, pelletizing equipment with high-quality wear-resistant materials to ensure long-term stable production. Vertical biomass pellet machines meet all these conditions.

Mixed raw materials
Mixing different raw materials for pelleting is a common practice among biomass pellet manufacturers. Proper mixing can effectively improve pellet formation rate and optimize combustion performance. However, it’s crucial to prioritize pellet formation when selecting raw materials. For example, you can start by using raw materials with high lignin content as a base, then add auxiliary materials such as husks and straw to further enhance performance.

Another important point is that, for optimal pelleting results, we recommend controlling the moisture and humidity of the raw materials within a reasonable range before pelleting. If you are unsure whether your raw materials are in ideal condition, we can provide free raw material testing.

Technical advantages of vertical biomass pellet machines
- The vertical pellet mill features a centralized, vertical layout, maximizing floor space and facilitating routine maintenance.
- The horizontally mounted ring die allows material to fall vertically into the hopper, shortening the feeding distance and reducing the likelihood of material accumulation.
- The variable frequency feeder automatically adjusts the feeding speed based on the raw material characteristics, preventing material waste.
- High-precision gear transmission is 15% more efficient than belt-driven models.
- The ring die incorporates several innovative designs. During pelleting, it can be rotated 180 degrees for double-sided use, effectively extending the machine’s lifespan.
- The ring die, pressure rollers, and cutter are all made of alloy steel—42CrMo—offering high wear resistance.
- An automatic lubrication system provides timed and metered lubrication to critical components such as the main shaft and bearings, eliminating the need for machine downtime and simplifying operation.
- An external air-cooled exhaust system removes moisture and heat generated during pelleting, preventing machine overload.
- The equipment uses a high-efficiency, low-consumption Siemens motor, adaptable to various production environments.
- The integrated frame structure results in low noise, high stability, and prevents uncontrolled swaying.

Application of vertical biomass pellet machines
Vertical biomass pellet machines have a wide range of applications. With their flexible raw material processing capabilities and stable, continuous performance, they can produce biomass pellets of various high performance qualities. It has already helped several biomass resource utilization projects generate stable revenue.

Biomass fuel
This is one of the most mature applications of vertical biomass pellet equipment. Compared to loose raw materials, pellets formed through high-temperature extrusion have a bulk density that can be increased by 2-3 times, and their calorific value typically reaches 16-19 MJ/kg. They are not only easy to transport, but also release fewer polluting gases during combustion. Currently, these pellets are gradually being adopted as a clean energy source in various fields such as industrial boilers, district heating, and residential heating.

Animal bedding industry
You can also use this equipment to produce bedding for animals such as cattle, sheep, and horses. These granules are smooth and uniform, and will not scratch the animal’s paws. At the same time, the granules are compact and highly absorbent, quickly absorbing animal urine and preventing mold and bacterial growth.

Organic fertilizer production
By mixing agricultural and forestry waste with animal manure, producers can create high-value organic fertilizer pellets. These pellets are rich in organic matter and nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which can steadily promote crop growth. Compared to powdered fertilizers, pellets offer better control over dosage and can effectively reduce waste.

Agricultural and forestry waste recycling
In the past, many agricultural and forestry wastes were simply disposed of by direct incineration, which not only polluted the environment but also wasted manpower. However, vertical biomass pellet production machines offer a new solution. They transform waste into high-value-added products. Moreover, because the raw materials needed for these products are inexpensive and have a broad market, they represent a profitable investment project for energy and agricultural processing companies.
Complete vertical biomass pellet production line
If you want to sell your pellets on the market, a single vertical biomass pellet machine is often not enough. A scientifically designed and efficient production line is essential. It can ensure continuous and stable production and excellent finished products. A complete biomass pellet production line includes six steps.

01
Cleaning
First, it’s essential to clean all impurities from the raw materials thoroughly. We have various specialized cleaning equipment available for this purpose.

02
Crushing
Use a grinder to pulverize the raw materials into a powder of 3-5mm. Raw materials in this state can better bind together to form compact particles.

03
Drying
This step is mainly for raw materials with excessively high moisture content. Our dryers can adjust their rotation speed according to the condition of different raw materials to achieve rapid drying.

04
Pelletizing
With the aid of its own weight and the feeder, the raw materials smoothly enter the vertical biomass pellet machine. Here, the pressure rollers force the material into the ring die orifice. The cutter quickly cuts the material into uniform pellets the moment it exits the die orifice.

05
Cooling
The cooling system uses cold air to cool and set the granules. During this process, moisture from the granule surface is also carried away. This further prevents the granules from molding.

06
Packaging
Qualified granules will enter the finished product warehouse, where they await precise weighing by an automatic packaging scale and then placed into packaging bags.
