Extruders are categorized as either single-screw or twin-screw models based on the number of screws; the primary differences lie in production capacity and processing methods. A single-screw extruder is a suitable choice if you have a limited budget, as it features a simple design that is easy to operate and maintain. Twin-screw extruders, however, offer distinct advantages when processing materials with high protein and oil content. The interaction between the two screws—compressing and shearing the material—ensures higher output and superior pellet quality, making them ideal for premium feed manufacturers who prioritize efficiency and product excellence.
Compared to standard feed, the extrusion process achieves full starch gelatinization and eliminates anti-nutritional factors, making the feed easier for fish to digest and absorb. Furthermore, the porous structure allows the pellets to float on the water surface for an extended period; this not only minimizes water pollution but also enables farmers to monitor feeding activity closely, facilitating precise feeding management.

These steps not only facilitate the pelletizing process but also minimize wear and tear on the machine caused by the fibrous structure of the material.
3. How should pellets be stored in Malaysia’s hot and humid environment?

- Moisture removal. After the pellets exit the pellet mill, a cooling unit lowers their temperature to near-ambient levels. During this process, surface moisture is also removed. Maintaining a final moisture content of approximately 12% effectively reduces the risk of mold growth and cracking.
- Use sealed packaging. It is advisable to use moisture-proof bags. Once bagged, the pellets should be placed on mats or pallets to prevent contact with the ground and avoid moisture absorption.
- Dry storage environment. Ventilation and dehumidification systems can be installed in the finished product warehouse to minimize condensation.
- Proper storage management. Clearly mark production dates and avoid long-term inventory accumulation, which increases the risk of mold growth.
