Paper Pellet Machine

Introduction to paper pellet machine
The production principle of paper pellet machines is to compress loose waste paper into compacted paper pellets through the mutual extrusion of ring dies and pressure rollers.
During pellet formation, no chemical binders are needed. Under high temperature and pressure, the lignin contained within the waste paper softens rapidly, acting as a natural binder.
The resulting pellets are highly rigid and resistant to breakage. When you transport the pellets to the incineration and bedding markets, there is minimal dust and loss.
Capacity: 0.3-4.5T/H

The complete production process mainly includes: waste paper cleaning – waste paper shredding – waste paper drying – paper pellet production – pellet cooling – pellet packaging.

1. Clean up waste paper
Waste paper may come from different places and may contain a lot of garbage and impurities. Before pelleting, the usable waste paper needs to be sorted out, and the impurities need to be removed using cleaning equipment.
2. Shredding waste paper (optional)
The key is to turn waste paper into 3-5mm powder. Smaller pieces of waste paper can pass through the die holes more smoothly. The resulting granules are also less prone to cracking. Therefore, many customers who want to improve production efficiency and granule quality request the addition of a shredding process.
3. Drying waste paper
The optimal moisture content for waste paper to be pelletized is between 13% and 15%. Too dry or too wet is undesirable. If too dry, the pellets will be difficult to bind and form. In this case, we recommend adding some water. If the paper moisture content is too high, we will provide a dryer to remove the moisture.
4. Waste paper pelleting section
The paper pellet machine is a core piece of equipment in waste paper pelleting projects. It can be customized to your requirements, including output, color, ring die, and more.
5. Cooling waste paper pellets
Freshly produced granules can reach temperatures of 80-90 degrees Celsius. This temperature is unsuitable for packaging and transportation, as they are prone to mold or breakage. A cooling machine removes the heat from the granules and gradually strengthens them.
6. Screening paper pellet powder
We have specialized screening machines. These machines primarily work by continuously rotating to remove powder and substandard particles from the granules, ensuring that every batch of granules shipped to the market meets optimal standards.
7. Finished pellet packaging
Packaging machines can accurately weigh and package granules. We recommend that customers with large-scale production use automatic packing machines, which can significantly improve efficiency.

Applications of paper pellet machines
Paper pellet machines can be used for energy combustion and as bedding for cats, dogs, and rabbits.
Biomass fuel
Paper pellets are a green and environmentally friendly clean energy source. After extrusion molding, the calorific value of the pellets is comparable to that of coal. However, it emits far less carbon monoxide, dust, and other pollutants than traditional fuels. This is a major reason why it attracts many customers. Less residue after combustion means less labor is needed for cleanup, effectively reducing long-term operating costs.

animal bedding
The pet bedding produced by the paper pellet machine is soft and comfortable, and unlikely to harm your pet’s paw pads. The loose structure of the paper fibers allows it to better trap odors and urine compared to traditional wood shavings and rice husks. However, this type of bedding material has poor clumping ability. Therefore, it is usually mixed with other materials, such as wood chips, rice husks, and activated carbon, to optimize the user experience.

When using a pellet mill to produce fuel pellets and bedding pellets, its design and configuration may differ. Typically, a die aperture of 6-12mm is chosen for fuel pellets, while 4-6mm is more common for bedding pellets.
Global Case Studies of Paper Pellet Machines

During this time, we have delivered paper pellet machines and production line solutions to customers in more than 140 countries and regions worldwide. With reliable equipment and scientifically designed production lines, many customers have achieved excellent returns on investment in the cat litter and biomass combustion industries. Below are some selected case studies for your reference.

1T/H paper pellet machine in India
- Raw Materials: The client uses leftover waste paper from their printing plant, mixed with wood chips, to produce biomass fuel pellets.
- Client Needs: The client operates a printing plant that produces a large amount of waste paper annually. This waste not only takes up space but also requires considerable labor to clean up. Therefore, they want to try converting the waste paper into energy for their daily power supply. Furthermore, being new to the biomass pelleting field, they have a limited budget and prefer a small-scale biomass pellet production line with low investment and simple operation.
- Solution: For this self-use production line, we only equipped it with a pellet mill, cooler, and shredder. The client’s raw materials met the moisture requirements for pelleting, so a drying step was omitted. Additionally, the hot climate in India makes the pellets prone to mold if cooled naturally. Therefore, a simple cooler was installed on the production line to ensure pellet quality.

1.5-2T/H paper pellet making machine in the United States
- Raw materials: Waste paper, soybean residue, sawdust, baking soda, activated carbon (to enhance deodorization and clumping ability)
- Project background: This is a cat litter production line. The client is currently engaged in pet product manufacturing. Due to the increasing domestic demand for environmentally friendly cat litter, they wanted to introduce a 1.5-2T/H production line capable of producing 4-6mm paper cat litter granules. The client specifically emphasized that the production line must be able to handle mixed raw materials.
- Solution: We selected a cat litter machine with a conditioner for this production line. Steam conditioning allows for a more uniform mixing of paper fibers and plant components, thereby improving the stability of granule formation. Our final product testing showed that the cat litter granules’ specifications, absorbency, and clumping effect have all reached high market standards.

2-2.5 tons/hour paper pellet maker in Kazakhstan
- Raw Materials: Various recycled waste paper, wood chips, wheat straw (low-cost raw material mixture)
- Project Background: Due to the cold and long winters in Kazakhstan, many areas rely on boilers and heating systems for warmth. This boiler heating operator from Kazakhstan wanted to try low-cost paper fuel pellets as an alternative to coal. They approached us, hoping we could design an industrial-grade production line to meet their large-scale, continuous heating needs during the winter.
- Production Line Solution: For the core equipment, the pellet mill, we chose the 2.5-3T/H MZLH678 paper pellet making machine. This model has a more powerful output and a larger pelletizing bin, allowing for the pressing of more 6-10mm combustible paper pellets per batch. Furthermore, the equipment employs a high-compression-ratio design of approximately 1:10–1:12, resulting in more compact pellets and more stable combustion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions. You can also contact us at any time for answers.
What raw materials can your paper pellet machine process?
First, this pellet mill can process various types of waste paper, including waste newspapers, waste cardboard, waste books, waste cartons, office paper, and packaging boxes. It’s not limited to processing single raw materials. The machine’s strong compression structure allows different types of paper to be mixed and formed. However, it’s important to ensure that the moisture content and size of the different raw materials are consistent; otherwise, the pellet formation will be unstable.
Furthermore, provided the raw materials are properly processed, this pellet mill can process various biomass raw materials. In fact, when making fuel pellets, customers typically don’t use pure paper; they often mix in agricultural and forestry waste such as sawdust, shavings, straw, rice husks, and bamboo shavings. This is to increase the calorific value and burning time of the pellets.
Should I choose a single pellet mill or an entire production line?
The choice between a single piece of equipment and building a complete production line depends on your raw material situation, production needs, space requirements, power consumption, product intended use, budget, and whether you intend to operate long-term.
Purchasing a single piece of equipment is suitable for the following situations:
- Raw materials are already processed.
- You want to buy it for self-production or small-scale trial production.
- You have a limited budget and require a simple operation.
- Your production capacity requirement is relatively small (0.3-1T/H).
However, single-unit granulation requires strict control over raw materials. If the moisture content and size of the raw materials are not properly controlled, it can easily affect the quality of the granules.
If you want to produce granules for sale, you need stable, continuous production and high-quality products. A suitable production line can meet these requirements.
